mlm1.jpg (32952 bytes) 1. McPherson had the honor of being the first person, outside Freedom Arms, to fire the 454 Long Tom, a revolver that was purpose built for the British Market. Recoil was odd, as was the obvious harmonic vibration, but accuracy was predictably splendid.
mlm2.jpg (39754 bytes) 2. McPherson finds autographing of his books an honor. Here he is (center) visiting with a friend and autographing a book at the SHOT Show.
mlm3.jpg (36105 bytes) 3. McPherson (right) and Friends at the Gateway, Colorado Dynamite Shoot, Fall 2001. Dave Torkelson (left) holds the record for consecutive events in hitting one of the Big Dog targets, three times -- Torkelson used McPherson's Custom Savage 6.5-284 (Pac-Nor and Sharp Shooter Supply parts) and McPherson called wind correction for each of those "explosive" second shots (target is a pop can about 830 yards distant, must be hit in two shots or less with no wind flags).
mlm4.jpg (25425 bytes) 4. McPherson found the Savage Scout rifle in 308 Winchester a pleasure to bench test and carry in the field. The forward-mounted scope was surprisingly useful, just as Mr. Cooper claims. Black Hills factory ammo produced consistent sub-MOA groups.
mlm5.jpg (36187 bytes) 5. McPherson has fallen in love with the Marlin 38-55 rifle. This gun routinely produces sub-MOA, 3-shot groups from the bench. Loads at 825 fps, 1120 fps, 1320 fps, and 1550 fps will meet this standard, when combined with the Bear Creek Supply 255-grain commercial cast bullet.
mlm6.jpg (28018 bytes) 6. Bench testing the Marlin 38-55. Perhaps the biggest surprise McPherson has ever had at the bench was when Winchester factory loads with bullets that are fully 0.004" smaller than groove diameter, nonetheless, consistently produced near MOA groups! On a bet, McPherson's friend, Dave Livingston, fired one such 100-yard, 3-shot group that went closer to 1/2-inch and this he fired using factory iron sights!
7. McPherson firing Harvey Watt's "Quigley" Sharps at Raton, New Mexico. (Target is life-sized buffalo silhouette at 1123 yards. When wind cooperates, this target returns a resounding clang about 6 seconds after the gun fires and does so with resounding regularity.)

9.  McPherson (left) with Frank (Paco) Kelley at the 2002 Shootists Raffle preparing custom Shootists rifle (Marlin 38-55 Cowboy Model with factory sponsored custom engraving, 1 of only 21 ever to be made).
10.  McPherson (right) with Bill Tharp at 2002 Shootists Banquet. Rifle is custom Shootist Marlin.
